چکیده

The 1998 Sep 30 and 2000 Apr 4 events are both large western solar energetic particle (SEP) events, in which 1 MeV proton intensities exceed 10 particles (cm s sr MeV) . Yet they exhibit quite different time variations of elemental abundance ratios and energy spectra. Using a model of SEP transport through self-amplified interplanetary Alfvén waves, we fit the simultaneous observations of protons and ions of helium, oxygen, and iron. We conclude that wave amplification by high energy protons largely account for the differences in the observed time histories.

Initial Time Dependence of Abundances in Solar Energetic Particle Events.

We compare the initial behavior of Fe/O and He/H abundance ratios and their relationship to the evolution of the proton energy spectra in "small" and "large" gradual solar energetic particle (SEP) events. The results are qualitatively consistent with the behavior predicted by the theory of Ng et al. published in 1999. He/H ratios that initially rise with time are a signature of scattering by no...

Time Evolution of Elemental Ratios in Solar Energetic Particle Events

Heavy ion ratio abundances in Solar Energetic Particle (SEP) events, e.g. Fe/O, often exhibit decreases over time. Using particle instruments on the ACE, SOHO and STEREO spacecraft, we analysed heavy ion data from 4 SEP events taking place between December 2006 and December 2014. We constructed 36 different ionic pairs and studied their time evolution in each event. We quantified the temporal b...

Onset Study of Impulsive Solar Energetic Particle Events

Impulsive solar energetic particle (SEP) events are associated with impulsive X-ray flares, energetic electrons, and enhanced heavy ion abundances. Using instruments on ACE, we have examined the composition and origin of twelve impulsive SEP events from November 1997 to June 2000. have enhanced ‘HerHe ratios compared with the solar wind values. All selected impulsive SEP events The range of ‘He...

Heavy-ion Elemental Abundances in Large Solar Energetic Particle Events and Their Implications for the Seed Population

We have surveyed the 0.1–10 MeV nucleon 1 abundances of heavy ions from He through Fe in 64 large solar energetic particle (LSEP) events observed on board theAdvancedComposition Explorer from1997November through 2005 January. Our main results are (1) the 0.5–2.0MeV nucleon 1 He/He ratio is enhanced between factors of 2– 150 over the solar wind value in 29 ( 46%) events. (2) The Fe/O ratio in mo...

The Ionic Charge State Composition at High Energies in Large Solar Energetic Particle Events in Solar Cycle

The ionic charge states of solar energetic particles (SEPs) depend upon the temperature of the source material and on the environment encountered during acceleration and transport during which electron stripping may occur. Measurements of SEP charge states at relatively high energies (£ 15 MeV/nucleon) are possible with the Mass Spectrometer Telescope (MAST) on the Solar, Anomalous, and Magneto...
